This illegal proposal elaborates the modern cheap building construction practices in Greece, which are found in habitation, in order to propose habitation forms in the same country. The word “Yapi” describes an unfinished construction, which is often abandoned. These constructions produce an open space in the city, within we can find a variety of uses and definitions. The first idea of the project came from a supossal collapse of an existing Yiapi into a stream named “Krafsidonas”, in the city Volos. With this fall a new horizontal skeleton in the stream is created, which connects both shores of the river. These bridges form the main structure, from which secondary structures arise. The main structure is consisted by: a) the 12 bridges connecting the two shores of the stream, b) the construction of the shores through perimetical ditches, c) the terrain design (domestic cisterns, outdoor staircases) and finaly d) the six amfitheatrical gaps (theatres), which filter and retain the water of the stream. The secondary structure is consisted by the housing skeletons. There are actually three habitation typologies which are repeated and located on the bridges’ borders. These typologies become more and more unfinished (constructively) as they approach the center of the proposal. (The properties have five constructional degrees of completion.) Basic elements, such as walls/ floors of the construction are gradiently removed in order to reach the primary phase of it, which is the skeleton of the construction. (When the property’s construction is increased, public space is increased too.) This gradient deconstruction implies the evolution of the construction and designing of space, which diverges from a controlled and homogeneous completion. Thus, man’s interference in this completion is the one that will finally give space (or not) its meaning of existence. The access to the properties is made from the bridges. These bridges function as internal corridors of each property as well. They consist the connection of the three floors of each house. In order someone went to his bedroom, will have to meet also the other owners that might be going to their bedrooms in the same floor. This situation could remind a commune but it is not. Each one uses his own property. In fact owners buy the vertical elements of block of flats. The river bed, the theatres and the bridges are public. Flat roofs belong to the property but they are accessible from the bridges, so they can become public space as well. The whole intervention belongs to a public organization. This organization is the one that will finance the project and decide the final price of each property depending on the degree of completion each one has.The project suggests housing with low privacy. The spaces of each property, with their different functions, are spread across different floors. Therefore it is necessary to cross the public area to go from one space to another. By reducing privacy I try to reduce the importance of owning property. The project follows new design logic – there is no separation between the design and construction period and the time of inhabitation. A space changing over time is created. The project acts as a filter of the river through the natural or urban events that proposes. People are invited to redefine community relationships through either cooperation or conflict. Was elected to represent the University of Thessaly in the competition Archiprix International Cambridge USA 2011.
